It is also a vibrant modern metropolis adorned with many beautiful gardens and parks which provides a colorful oasis in the midst of the urban landscape for both the citizens and visitors to admire.
TARGET COMMUNITY AND BACKGROUND
This project’s target is an idea from ourselves, refugees from the Democratic Republic of Congo. It came after realizing the different challenges that most vulnerable refugees are going through and doing enough research about how vulnerable are suffering from the poor conditions of daily life, we find it important to join our good efforts and start this community-based organization named Center For Hope
Center For Hope, as one of the refugee-led organizations, is composed of refugees who went through difficult conditions of war in Congo. They are all registered and known as refugees in their respective areas. Due to those different problems that the Congolese were facing, we found it worthy to work together as an organization in order to increase our voices.
The United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) and allied organizations have done much to support many refugees in Congo and other many countries, including those from other East African countries like Ethiopia, Somalia, Sudan, and Burundi but the recent influx of refugees and the complexities which goes with it leaves many of our targeted members still in great need. Currently, the problem of insecurity and terrorism in KENYA Has been of much focus, and resources have been constrained. Globally, refugees have also increased greatly in the past few years. As CENTER FOR HOPE we realized that there are many refugees with different s needs. The most affected among them are widows, orphans, and single mothers. We aim at working together as a community and set effective strategies in order to bridge this gap.
The inflow of refugees in the world comes at a time when the existence of poverty among them is rampant among them. Many refugees live below the poverty line. The poverty among refugees is caused by unemployment, low income, malnutrition, poor health conditions, low literacy, inadequate housing, and poor living conditions.
This situation in urban areas is worsening as more widows and youths are moving into urban areas in search of limited job opportunities.
Among refugees, there are many youths who are not necessarily orphans and women who are not widows. The fact that they are refugees leaves them with a lot of difficulties and poverty.
Center For Hope started working with refugees who came from the Great Lakes Region (mainly DR-Congo, and Burundi) but will scale up to accommodate many more refugee widows and orphans from other Great Lakes regions. The project is being initiated for the vulnerable in general, especially widows and orphans.
